D.B. FAIRBANKS Dies Colonel D.B. FAIRBANKS of Petaluma, one of the most prominent millers in California, died Friday night. Colonel Fairbanks was president of the Golden Eagle milling Company at Petaluma, a member of the Merchants' exchange and prominent in banking circles. He had been ill for several weeks, but his death was unexpected. He was only recently married to his brother's widow, who survives him. OBITUARY: The Press Democrat, Santa Rosa, CA, 19 Dec 1908 *** COL. D.B. FAIRBANKS IS DEAD *** His many Santa Rosa friends, as well as the entire Petaluma community in which he had resided since boyhood will be surprised to learn that Colonel D.B. Fairbanks died this morning shortly after one o'clock at Dr. Burke's Sanitarium, near this city. *** It was not generally known that Colonel Fairbanks was sick at the Sanitarium, although he had not been a well man for a long time. The news of his death comes as a shock. *** Colonel Fairbanks became well known in military circles of the State while Colonel of the Fifth Infantry N.G.C., and commanded that regiment during the memorable railroad strike in 1894. A number of years ago he retired from the National Guard. *** The deceased was a son of President Fairbanks of the Petaluma Savings Bank, and was for a long time cashier of that institution, resigning to devote his whole time to the Petaluma Flour Mills. *** Last summer he married the wife of, his deceased brother, and the wedding took place in Oakland. In fraternal circles he was prominent, and at the time of his death held a high office in Petaluma Commandery of Knights Templar. *** The remains were brought to the undertaking parlors of Moke & Ward at an early hour this morning and will be sent at once to Petaluma for interment. *** Mrs. A.B. Hill and Miss Dacia Fairbanks, both of whom are well known here are sisters of the deceased. | Fairbanks, Colonel Dolphus Brice (I2271)

| 19526 | Genealogical notes, or, Contributions to the family history of some of the first settlers of Connecticut and Massachusetts Goodwin, Nathaniel, 1782-1855. 974 D2g 1978 No concrete information has been discovered on whom William married. In a letter written by Thomas Fairchild, dated December 1662, to John Winthrop of Hartford (who was in London at the time) a Mrs. Elizabeth Whiting, of the city of London, was mentioned. Some genealogist, such as Nathaniel Goodwin, believes this Mrs. Elizabeth Whiting was the wife of William. We do know that William's son Joseph, was appointed administrator of his estate when William died in London in 1699. (Goodwin pg. 143). | Whiting, Joseph (I14016)

| 19528 | Genealogies and Biographies of Ancient Windsor; will dated Apr 21,1670; Margaret/Elson May1647 Notes from Ellen Baker, Washington State (dab@3-cities.com ) Thomas and Mary and family came to America in 1635. In what ship isstill unclear. Several researcher believes it to be Susan & Ellen buttheir names are not listed on the passenger list. After Mary died in1636? in MA, Thomas would marry again? to #2? Margaret Butler and senthis family back to England so he could be one of the first settlers tosettle Wethersfield, Hartford Co., CT by 1639?. (*Note-The firstsettlement was wiped out by Indians in 1637, which killed HughHillard, the first husband of Margaret Hillard Elson.) He would buy upa lot of land and would eventually have his own Island, called "WrightIsland" in the Connecticut River. The Indians called it Mannahannock("Great Laughing Place"). A part of this Island was still owned by thefamily in 1900. It would later sink, though, and does not exist today.Thomas would sit on a Jury in 1643 in 1665?, and 1666. Thomas and Maryhad at least 5 children. (*Note-Researcher Mike Wright tells me there is a dispute if DeaconJoseph Wright is actually the son of Mary Cranbroke. He was supposedlyborn in Kelvedon Hatch, England but there is no record of his birththere. Thus, they think he may have been born at St. Peter's in SouthWeald, England, Thomas' father's home parish. It is thought the reasonthey are in England is that Thomas sent the family back while he wentoff to reclaim the Wethersfield Settlement in CT from the Indians. That is if Mary did indeed die after 1639. If Mary died in 1636 inWatertown, Middlesex Co., MA, then Thomas must have married MargaretButler in 1638 and got married in the wilderness of New England andthe events were never recorded or recorded and got lost. He then senthis family back to England, where Mary had his son Joseph. It is saidshe died in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., CT in 1645. By all accounts,Thomas indeed marry again to twice widow Margaret Hillard Elson in1647.)*(Note- Thomas married again to wife # 3? twice widow MargaretHillard Elson on May 2, 1647 in Wethersfield, Hartford Co, CT. Theyhad no children together but she had children from her first marriageto Hugh Hilliard and she did make a Will that mentions her Hillardgrandchildren. When her son Benjamin Hilliard got into a legal troublein 1648/9, Thomas stood by him in court like a father figure) WILL: Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut Probate Records Volume III, page 77, Thomas Wright Senior. (Inventory L101-15-00 taken 29th of April 1670 by James Treat, Samuel Boreman, and John Ryley. The last will and testament of Thomas Wright senior of Wethersfield is as followeth: I do give unto my dear wife Margaret, after my decease, all the provisions (that are for meat and drink) now in my possession, also the use of such my moveables as she shall think needful for her use during her life. My will is that the division that I have formerly made of my Lord unto my sonns shall stand firme forever, onely in yt my will I give unto my sonn Samuell but halfe my six acre lott in ye meadow, together with foure acres in ye swamp, which he now enjoyes, all which is in consideration of five acres of land which I had purposed to have given him upon the island. I doe give unto my sonn Joseph halfe my six acre lott in ye meadow, taht is to say, the north side of ye said lott. My will is that after all my just debts are paid out of my estate, there shall be an equall division made of ye remainder amongest my children. I doe allsoe make my sonn Thomas sole Executor of ye my will, and doe desire my loving friend Samuel Hale Senr to be helpfull to him herein. I doe give unto my dear wife Margaret all the linnen that I have in my possession that was of her owne spinning. Witness: Samuel Talcott Thomas (X) Wright Seal John Deminge Samuel Hale Josiah Gilbert Court Record, page 101 of 1st day of September 1670: Will exhibited by Thomas Wright Jr and Samuel Hale. Accepted, only it is ordered that the clause in the will wherein mentioned is made of giving to Joseph halfe his six acre lot in the meadow (the north side of the lot) is to be null because it appeared to this court that part of the lot was on 6th of March 1688 sold by the said Thomas Wright to his son Samuel Wright. | Wright, Thomas (I27644)
