25651 | OBITUARY FOR JANNETTE (MURDOCK) ANTHONY Mrs. Arthur Anthony dies October 13 Mrs. Arthur Anthony of Clitherall, Minnesota died at her home in Clitherall on Wednesday, October 13 at the age of 78. Services were held Saturday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Elder Frank Smith officiating. Diane Trosdahl was the organist, and Mrs. Dorothy Norgren sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond The Sunset". Pallbearers were Clifford Ukkelberg, Burton Kimber, Joe Dahl, Berdell Lunning, Kenneth Smith and Clifford West. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Jannette, daughter of Orison and Cordelia (Whiting) Murdock, was born on July 11, 1898 in Nidaros Township. She was united in marriage to Arthur F. Anthony in April of 1917 and in 1918 they moved to Missouri, returning to Clitherall in 1936. She served as assessor for Clitherall for many years, and also taught sewing at the Singer Company in Fergus Falls for several years. She was a life-long member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Whiting, who were among the early ptoneers who settled at Clitherall in 1865. She is survived by one daughter, Evie (Mrs. Duane Leth) of Clitherall; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margurite (Mrs. E. G. Kelley) of Des Moines, Iowa and Ione (Mrs. James McNeill) of Oakwood Village, Ohio; and a brother, Ellis Murdock of Independence, Missouri. Her husband preceded her in death in 1959. Tucker, 59, of Pleasant Hill in Cass County, Missouri died Wednesday night, February 5, 1975, apparently of a heart attack while driving home from work. He was born in Clitherall, Minnesota, and had lived in Pleasant Hill for 42 years. He was a machinist for the Gresham Company. Mr. Tucker was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pleasant Hill. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Margaret Tucker of the home; six sons, Keith Tucker of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth Tucker of 1311 Kings Highway, Independence, Missouri, Leonard Tucker of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Robert Tucker, Willy Tucker and Ricky Tucker, all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Feagins of 13213 Bennington, Grandview, Missouri; a brother, Wayne Tucker of 1350 Kings Highway, Independence; a sister, Mrs. Joyce McCarty of 1330 Kings Highway, Independence; his mother, Mrs. Nina Belle Tucker of 1328 Kings Highway, Independence; and ten grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Alvin Keller of Raymore, Missouri; three daughters, Mrs. Isabel Tomporowski of Duluth, Minnesota, Mrs. Lloyd (Zella) Drake of Nashwauk, Minnesota, and Norma Stephenson of Kansas City, Kansas; two stepchildren, Norma Tucker of Arcadia, California and Malcolm Whiting of Forest Grove, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Lily Marquardt of Deer Creek, Minnesota, Mrs. Lucy Brasel of Perham, Minnesota and Mrs. Lydia Dickhoff of Esco, Minnesota; a niece, Myrtle Johnson of Wadena, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. 25655 | OBITUARY FOR MARIAN E. (ROKES) WHITING Funeral Held For Marian E. Whiting The funeral for Marian E. "Betty" Whiting, 74, of Clitherall, Minnesota was held last Thursday morning at the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church in Battle Lake, with the Reverend Louis Rowe officiating. She died on Monday, June 10, 1991 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. Providing music for the service were organist Karen Dreyer and vocalists George Hendrickson and Robert and Eunice Swedberg. Serving as pallbearers were David Rokes, Robert Rokes, John Cordes, Richard Dreyer, Carol Malmstrom and Oliver Jacobson. Mrs. Whiting was born on December 23, 1916 at Woodstock, Minnesota, the daughter of Grant and Olive (Bell) Rokes. In 1924 her family moved to Timber Lake, South Dakota, and later on to Ridgeway, South Dakota. In 1930 she moved with her family to the Clitherall area where she attended school at District no. 1 in Old Clitherall. After her marriage to Clarence Whiting on March 24, 1943 in Battle Lake, they made their home in the Clitherall area. She was a member of the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church for 50 years. Survivors include her husband of Clitherall; One brother, James Rokes of Vining; and five nephews. 25658 | OBITUARY FOR ORISON E. MURDOCK Orison Murdock, residing two miles east of Clitherall, Minnesota, passed away Monday morning at 3 o'clock. He had gone to bed the evening before apparently as well as ever, but about 3 o'clock in the morning his wife was awakened by his groans. Complaining of stomach trouble, she gave him some soda. Immediately afterwards he rolled over on his side, groaned once, and laid still. Mrs. Murdock became frightened and called their son, who approached the bed to find his father dead. Acute indigestion was the cause of Mr. Murdock's death. Mr. Murdock was born in Iowa on May 3, 1863 and has resided in Ottertail County since a boy, his parents coming to this county and settling at Clitherall when he was two years old. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Murdock, are both dead. His wife and four children (two of them being adopted), five sisters and two brothers survive him. They are: Mrs. Abner Tucker of Clitherall; Mrs. Almon Whiting of Minneapolis; Mrs. Jedediah Anderson of Independence, Missouri; Mrs. James Fletcher of Clitherall; Mrs. Arthur Whiting of Clitherall; Charles and Lurette Murdock. Funeral services were held Tuesday with Reverend Alonzo Whiting officiating. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Clitherall. They got as far as Nebraska and Brigham Young ask them not to go on because they had learned the Indians had set fire to the prairie grass and it would be better to go the next year. They wintered in Nebraska and were asked to go back to Winter Quarters to help raise crops for the Saints that would be coming. Cyril’s family then crossed the plains in various years from 1848 to 1851. I have been trying to list all of Cyril Calls descendants that went in wagon trains to Utah. Sarah CALL Mecham, Samuel Alvarus Mecham and Sara Josephine Mecham and the husband Samuel Mecham are descendants that I haven’t been able to get any data about. They settled at Lebanon, Conn. later removed to Windham, where he was a Colonel of militia and Sheriff of the county. He refused to take a part against the British government, in the war of the Revolution, and at the close of the war went to St. Johns, L.C. (?) where he died.
