Mr. Silvey was born in Ogden April 29 1900, a son of Edwin and Mary Armstrong Whiting. He was adopted by his grandfather, taking the name of Silvey. He had been employed by the United States Smelting, Mining and Refining Company as foreman for 17 years. He served in the United States Navy during the World War (I). She was born in Harrisville, Michigan on May 19, 1923 to the late Capt. Carl and Minnie (Whiting) Fuhrman. She was a graduate of Hurley School of Nursing and was in the Cadet Nurse Corp while in nursing school. Margaret worked as a Registered Nurse in area hospitals and for the Bay County Health Dept., as well as for Dr. Michael Dardas. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary for many years. Margaret was a member of the Bay City Junior Women's Club and the Essexville Women's Club, where she served as President from 1982-1985, as well as the Essexville-Hampton Board of Education from 1966-1978, serving many years as President. She enjoyed her sewing and bridge clubs where she spent time with her life-long friends. On August 23, 1947, she married Robert R. Morand in Bay City and he preceded her in death on November 21, 2005. She is survived by 3 children: Carla Dustin, Patti (Mark) Marra-ccini and Paul (Jill) Morand, 6 grandchildren: Andrew and Adam Dustin, Michael and Steven Marra-ccini and Elizabeth and Kathleen Morand, a niece, Sylvia Kramp and her family as well as 2 sisters-in-law: Virginia Lesperance and Frances Morand. She was preceded in death by a brother, R.J. Scott, a sister, Grace Kramp and 2 nephews: David and Robert Kramp. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey D. Weenink will officiate. Interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. 25644 | OBITUARY FOR CLARENCE MORLEY WHITING Clarence Whiting, 84, of Clitherall died Friday, April 25, 2003 at the Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. He was born on August 22, 1918 in Old Clitherall, the son of Julian E. and Amy L. (Gentzler) Whiting. He attended rural school District # 1 in Old Clitherall, and continued through the 10th grade at the Battle Lake High School. He moved to California and worked at a C.C. Camp, and then for the State and National Park Department. He then moved to Missouri and did trucking until 1941. On Jan 21, 1941 he entered the U.S. Army and served until 1945 in the Aleutian Islands, New Guinea for a year, and then two years in the Philippines during World War II. In March of 1943 he married Betty E. Rokes in Clitherall. Following his military service he returned to the Clitherall area and did over the road trucking for 18 years. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years, serving as Assistant Postmaster and then as Postmaster in Clitherall for the last few years. Mrs. Rokes died in 1991. He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Battle Lake for over 50 years, where he served in most offices. He was also a member of the Battle Lake Veterans Groups. He is survived by a brother, Julian E. (Ilo) Whiting, Jr. of Blue Springs, Missouri and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and three brothers, Vincent, Richard and Ronald. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Services are at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Battle Lake. Clergy is Reverend Mark Hume. Burial is in the Lakewood Cemetery in Battle Lake. Funeral Home is the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake. She also leaves one nephew and three nieces. Her father preceded her in death. The funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Henning on Monday, March 20 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Darrell Vetter officiating. The organist was Mrs. Mae Syverson who also accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Hubert Nordgren, who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Rock Of Ages". Pallbearers were Walter Sorenson, Stanley Estes, Wilfred Estes, Larry Estes, Rudy Sagerhorn and Vernon Witt, Sr. Burial was in the Girard Cemetery. The circle from the Ladies Aid served lunch. Services were held on Wednesday, Feb 25 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning, with Pastor Darrell Vetter officiating. Richard Cloeter, soloist, was accompianied by Cathy Cloeter. Pall bearers were Irvin and Melvin Kimber, Larry and Wilfred Estes, Vernon Witt and Henry Mueller. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery, Girard Township. Grace was born on July 24, 1873 to Warren and Zeruah Whiting at Old Clitherall. She received her education from her mother, who was the first teacher in that early rural area, and later became a dressmaker in Detroit Lakes. After her marriage on January 1, 1899 to Ben Kimber at Old Clitherall, they farmed at the present home farm. She was a member of the Latter Day Saints. Her husband died on January 11, 1956 and she was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Doris, three brothers and one sister. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Verl (Vivian) Smith of Henning and Ruth Kimber of Battle Lake; two sons, Burton of Battle Lake and Robert of Henning; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ida Kimber of the Battle Lake Nursing Home; and several nieces and nephews. The Belmont Funeral Home in Henning had charge of the arrangements.
