- OBITUARY FOR GRACE (WHITING) KIMBER
Grace Etta Kimber, 107, of rural Battle Lake, Minnesota died Saturday, Feb 21 at the Henning Nursing Home. Services were held on Wednesday, Feb 25 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning, with Pastor Darrell Vetter officiating. Richard Cloeter, soloist, was accompianied by Cathy Cloeter. Pall bearers were Irvin and Melvin Kimber, Larry and Wilfred Estes, Vernon Witt and Henry Mueller. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery, Girard Township.
Grace was born on July 24, 1873 to Warren and Zeruah Whiting at Old Clitherall. She received her education from her mother, who was the first teacher in that early rural area, and later became a dressmaker in Detroit Lakes. After her marriage on January 1, 1899 to Ben Kimber at Old Clitherall, they farmed at the present home farm. She was a member of the Latter Day Saints.
Her husband died on January 11, 1956 and she was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Doris, three brothers and one sister. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Verl (Vivian) Smith of Henning and Ruth Kimber of Battle Lake; two sons, Burton of Battle Lake and Robert of Henning; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ida Kimber of the Battle Lake Nursing Home; and several nieces and nephews. The Belmont Funeral Home in Henning had charge of the arrangements.
