26728 | Susannah/Mary was previously married to William Whiting-they lived in Hartford, CT and had several children before his death. Susannah and Samuel married in Hartford where Samuel taught school 1650-1653. "Parents were required to provide 'either a little load of wood or three shillings toward procuring it". He was also a representative to the General Court in 1654 and 1655. After Samuel's death after only nine years of marriage, Susannah married again, to Alexander Bryan and lived in Milford, CT. She died at the home of a daughter. There was a Samuel Fitch who was in Milford, CT in 1644, but he supposidly moved to Norwalk, CT. The Samuel, son of Thomas of Bocking, was born in 1626- far too young to be married to Susanna. 1. James Savage, Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England. The girl was sold on 20 September 1834 at public sale and purchased by Reuben Rose for $378.00, signed by W. Haley, Administrator. Three surveys that were dated 1826 and 1831. At some point during this time, looks like between 1834 and 1837, Richard W. Mantlo became the Guardian for the minor heirs of George Whiting. This could indicate the death of Sarah. I will need to read more of the un-indexed County Court Minutes. I still have found no mention of a Dower being set aside for his widow (Sarah?). Hopefully, some of these answers will be found in these Court Minutes. There is the question as to whether these minor heirs are actually children of George, himself, or are they the children of William Whiting, who are also heirs of George due to the death of their father? It was not uncommon for the widow to buy items at the Estate sale. However, a Dower or provisions should have been set aside for Sarah and her minor children. I have searched the Index to the Loose Chancery Court Records for Robertson County, 1844-1946, but unfortunately, there were no cases in these files for this Whiting family. I was somewhat disappointed because if there was a law suit in these files, they are filled with lots of good information. I also have searched the Loose Settlements and Guardian reports, 1839-1900, but found no cases for the Whiting minor heirs.
