112. EBENEZER FAIRBANKS, of Dedham, Mass.
(48), Ebenezer V, Joseph IV, Joseph III, John II, Jonathan I.
Born in Dedham, Jan. 5, 1758; died Nov. 24, 1832, aged 74 yrs. 9 mos. 25 ds.
Lived on the Dedham homestead which was bequeathed to him by his father. He responded to the Lexington Alarm, and was in the Miscellaneous War Service. See War Rolls.
He was a prominent and highly respected citizen. An aged correspondent, who, in his boyhood, remembers him, writes, "He was a man of stately manner, and esteemed as on of the solid men of that day, of whom George Dixon, Samuel Swett, Reuben Richards, Reuben Guild, Samuel Richards, Erastus Worthington, and the ministers were our standards. Of his musical ability, I can only say, he was one of the singers in Dr. Lamson's meeting house."
Married, Mar. 3, 1777, Mary Hammond, who died Jan. 7, 1843, aged 87 yrs.
NOTE. Ebenezer, junior, bequeathed the homestead to his wife, who by her
will directed that it should be divided among her four children, Prudence,
Sarah, Nancy, and Joshua, the house going to the daughters for their home
during life, a part of the land being given to Joshua. The three daughters
lived there unmarried till they died at the ripe old ages above mentioned,
when the property came into the possession of Rebecca, daughter of their
brother Joshua, who is not the sole owner [1897].
