Dr. Samuel Whiting was a surgeon in the Army of The Revolution was taken prisoner by the British and confined in the old prison ship Wallabout where the Brooklyn Navy Yard is now located. He received his commission as a Lieutenant on the 21 of April 1780. The original commission signed by Samuel Huntington President of Congress of the United States is in possession of Dr. Fred Whiting of New York City. The Commission dates from Feb 1st 1777.
