268. JABEZ FAIRBANKS, of Francestown and Newport, N. H.

Born in Francestown, Feb. 24, 1788. He was interested in a grist and sawmill in Francestown for twenty years, and was a contractor and builder while he remained in that town. He build a large number of houses there. Was an active member of the Congregational Church.
He removed to Newport, N. H., in 1840, and bought one of the best farms in the county, pleasantly located just outside of and overlooking the beautiful shaded village. He was a very industrious and enterprising man, and a respected and honorable citizen whose counsel was often sought. He died May 10, 1874.
Married I, Jan. 2, 1814, Sally Bixby, of Francestown, who was born Jan. 29, 1789, and died Dec. 2, 1839.
Married II, Nov. 17, 1840, Polly Bixby, of Francestown, sister of his first wife. She was born in 1794, and died Jan. 26, 1863.
