Born in Dedham, Mass., Jan 9, 1782; lived in Boston; died Nov. 14, 1829; was a saddler and harness maker.
He was prominent in business and military circles, and was a man of considerable literary attainments, and an able public speaker. He delivered an oration in Fancuil Hall, July 4, 1821, at the request of the Republicans of the town of Boston, in commemoration of the Anniversary of our National Independence. It was a fine production and was published in pamphlet form by the Committee, Jonathan Simonds, Isaac Waters and Charles M. Dennett. A copy is still preserved by the family of the late Hon. A. G. Fairbanks, Manchester, N. H.
He married Mary, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Williams) Sumner, May 17, 1806, who was born Aug. 1, 1786, and died Mar. 27, 1870, aged 83 yrs. 7 mos. 27 ds.
