45. JOHN FAIRBANKS, of Dedham, Mass.
(20) Joseph IV, Joseph III, John II, Jonathan I
Born in Dedham, in the "Old Fairbanks House," Dec. 9, 1718; died Oct. 25, 1794, aged 75 yrs., 10 mos., 6 ds.. He was by trade a cooper, and also a farmer.
He and his brothers, Israel and Samuel, conveyed their interest in the homestead to their brother Ebenezer (48), by a deed, dated the "15th day of February, 1764, and in the fourth year of his Majesty's Reign," said interests being described as follows:
"All the Right, Title, Interest and Estate which we have of in or to the following Tracts of land, viz.: the Northerly half part of the homestead, divided as it now is, and bounded with Stakes and stones, containing Twenty-six acres more or less, with one half of the Buildings on the same, viz.: the Westerly lower room, and Westerly end of the Lentow, as far as the fourth joist (from the Westerly end) with the chamber over the same, the Northwesterly bed room with the chamber over the same, together with the entry way leading to said bedroom, the Easterly chamber and garret and half the Cellar, with liberty of the well, and passing to the same, with yard room for wood, &c. on the South side of the house, thirty feet square, measuring from the Southwesterly corner of the house, the Westerly half of the barn, the Northwesterly half of the corn barn and Easterly half of the old house, with liberty of passing from the house to the barn and liberty of carting hay over the abovbe said Samuel Fairbanks' land as hath been usual, and also the lot number eight in Purgatory Swamp so called, as now staked out." They received their title from their brother Joseph, by deed. See Suffolk Deeds, Lib. 92, fol. 89.
He married Mrs. Mary Lewis (Int. Nov. 30, 1753), widow of Isaac Lewis, and daughter of Nathaniel and Joanne (Ellis) Whiting of Dedham. She was a descendant in the fourth generation of Nathaniel and Hannah Whiting, who were among the original settlers of Dedham. She was born Feb. 22, 1713-14; died Nov. 31, 1798, aged 84 yrs., 8 mos., 29 ds..
