Born in South Dedham, Mass., Oct. 20, 1782. He was married in Sharon, Mass., and removed Medfield, Mass., in 1809, and bought the Wheelock estate, where the town hall now stands, including a house and store. The house he enlarged, and kept a tavern there for several years. About 1816 he built the house opposite the head of South street, and a new store at the corner of North street, moving away the old one.
He was the business man of the town,--kept a large assortment of goods, carried on the manufacture of straw bonnets, and kept a boarding house for his help. He also traded in real estate to a considerable extent. He was on the board of selectmen for two years.
He afterward removed to New York City, where he spent most of the remainder of his life.-- Medfield History. He died in Mechanicsville, Saratoga Co., N.Y. Aug. 15, 1853
He married I, Mary (Polly) Billings, of Sharon, Sept. 21, 1809. She was born Jan. 25, 1788, and died in New York, May 3, 1825.
He married II, Elizabeth, daughter of John and Betsey (Knickerbocker) Bradshaw, who was born June 10, 1796, and died Dec. 5, 1891.
