Born in Dedham, Oct. 21, 1758. He resided in Dedham, South Parish; was mostly engaged in farming; died Aug. 23, 1803, aged 44 yrs. 10 mos. 2 ds.
His will, dated Aug. 4, 1803, was probated Sept. 6, 1803. The inventory of his estate amounted to $5,581.62. See Norfolk Probate Records, No. 6422.
Like all of his ancestors, from Jonathan I, down, he was in comparatively independent circumstances, and he was a man of strict probity and a worthy citizen.
He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Enlisted, first, for service at Castle Island, Dec. 11, 1776, in Capt. Ebenezer Battle's Co, Col. William McIntosh's Regiment; served under command of Lieut. Col. Weld; was discharged Dec. 30, 1776; time of service, 19 days.
He next enlisted Apr. 2, 1778, for three months, for Guard Service in and about Boston, in Capt. Nathaniel Heath's Co., Col. Jonathan Reed's Regiment (First Reg. Guards). See Muster Roll, dated at Boston, May 14, 1778; time of service at that date, 1 month, 12 days. See War Rolls.
He enlisted, again, for service in Rhode Island, on an alarm, Aug. 1, 1778, in Capt. Ebenezer Everett's co., Col. McIntosh's Regiment, and was discharged Sept. 14, 1778; time of service 15 days.
He married, Sept. 30, 1795, Becca Felch, of Walpole, Mass., daughter of Stephen and Hannah Felch. She was born in Walpole, 5 h. o'clock, 23 m., A.M." Aug. 3, 1771, and died Sept. 1, 1858, aged 87 yrs. 28 ds., having survived her husband fifty-five years. She continued to live on the homestead till her death.
