      Genealogies of Hadley Families, Embracing the Early Settlers of the Towns of Hatfield, South Hadley, Amherst and Granby, Compiled Sylvester Judd, published in 1905. p. 91. Freeman, 1690; representative 1701. John Marsh of Hartford, CT; Marsh Genealogy 1636 - 1895; Compiled by Dwight Whitney Marsh of Amherst, Mass. Published by Press of Carpenter & Marebouse, Amherst, Mass, 1895. p. 305. Removed with his father's family to Hadley, Mass., in 1660 and there spent his life. He was freeman 1790 and respresentative to the Massachusetts general court in 1701, in which year he placed his only son living, in Harvard college to graduate in 1705. Gov. Hopkins seven times governor of Hartford colony, dying in 1657, left property which eventually helped New Haven and Hartford schools and Harvard college and Cambridge grammar school, and was also foundation of Hopkins academy at Hadley in 1766 and 7. There Jonathn Marsh had his son fit for Harvard and saw him after graduating in 1705, return to be the academy teacher 1706-7. Who can tell the wide influence of that academy as Gov. Hopkins expressed it, "breeding up hopeful youths at grammar school and college for th public service of the country in future times?"
