Notes |
- Ann Graves was the daughter of Thomas Graves of Hungars Parrish, Northampton County, Virginia. She married 1. William Cotton and they had a daughter, Verlinda.
2nd marriage: Nathanial Eaton born 1609, once Governor of New Haven, Connecticut, and had
children Samuel and Nathaniel by him.
3rd marriage: Francis Doughty
Ann Grave's 1st husband, William Cotton had a a sister, Verlina who married William Stone, Governor of Maryland. He was born 1603 in Northampton, Englandand died in 1660in Maryland. He was of Hungars Parish, Virginia in 1634. In his will he called FRANCIS DOUGHTY his brother -in-law, and from this it has been assumed that Francis married Bridget Stone. However, this may not be accurate. William Stone was a brother-in-law of William Cotton and wife, Ann(Graves). As Anne Graves married 3rd Francis Doughty, he would be a brother-in-law by marriage, which may account for the statement.
