Notes: Deceased was working the quarry on contract, and usually employed only one man to assist him. During the early part of the morning they were working sand from a hole below the floor level of the quarry, and having undergone a bed of stone lying immediately above this sand, they agreed it was unsafe to do more there, and retired to work in another part of the quarry. In the afternoon, deceased was working alone, and was found at night buried under a fall of stone and sand in the hole from which he had retired in the morning. He was dead when got out Presumably deceased had been getting out a little more sand from beneath the stone when the fall occurred.
