REV. WARREN WHITING, an honored pioneer of 1846, who now resides onsection 9, town of Waupun, was born on the 12th of Octover, 1816, and isa son a Amos and Aley (Chase) Whiting, who sketch appears on another pageof this volume. He was reared to farm life, and in the district schoolsof his native county received his education. He assisted hsi father inthe cultivation of the home farm until twenty-one years of age, when heleft the partental roof and began life for himself. The improvementsmade in farming implements during the years of his life are indeedgreat. It seems almost incredible when we see the prefected machinery ofto-day that so much was accomplished with the rude implements formerly inuse. On leaving home, Mr. Whiting began work as a farm hand and continued his labors in that direction until he was enbabled to engage in business for himself.
He has been three times married. His first union, celebrated on the 5th of September, 1839, was with Miss Lorenda Keith, a native of MadisonCounty, N. Y., boarn Dec. 19, 1816. Four children were born of therimarriage, as follows: Lydia S., born in the Empire State, is the widow of Arthur H. Sikes, and has four children; John E., also born in New York, died at the age of seventeen years; Ethan E., a native of the same State, married Julia R. Towne, by whom he had four children, and after her death wedded Ella Grinell, who became the mother of two children; Emma, who was born in Wicsonsin, is the wife of Hiram A. Changler, and two choldren grace their union. The mother of this family, who was a memberof the Free-will Baptist Church, and an earnest Christian lady, was called to her final rest June 16, 1884. In September, 1885, Mr. Whiting was again married, his union being with Mrs. Norstraint, whose maidenname was Ellen C. Ross. She was born in Canada, and lived five months after her marriage with Mr. Whiting. On the 17th of May, 1887, he was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Miss Ellen O'Harrow, who wasborn in Lewiston, N. Y., April 20, 1835, and died on the 27th of June,1888. She and his second wife were also members of the Free-will BaptistChruch.
