  Ruth and Jim Allen only had one child, Blanche, who was named after hersister. Jim worked in road construction for many years and worked on theAl-Can Highway to Alaska. Upon their return to Michigan, he worked at theAlpena Co Road Commission until his retirement. Uncle Jim and Aunt Ruth are fondly remembered by their nieces and nephewsbecause of the love and generosity when the kids were little. They alwaysmade Christmas and birthdays a little more special. The Alpena News of November 11, 1997 reads: 'RUTH B. ALLEN 92, formerly of Alpena died Sunday (November 9 ) atPineview Nursing Home in Hillman. She was born March 30, 1905 in Lewiston, Michigan and was a Hillman arearesident until the time of her marriage to James E. Allen on January 13,1922 in Alpena. Following her marriage she moved to Alpena where herhusband, James, was the Superintendent of the County Roads for manyyears. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1969. In November 1988 shemoved to Vicksburg, Michigan returning to Hillman in 1994 where she madeher residence at Pineview of Hillman where her sister, Clara Tewell, alsolives. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, O.E.S.Chapter #341 and the AARP N.E. Michigan Chapter. Surviving are: 2 granddaughters: Ruth Van Simaeys of Chesterfield, GloriaEddy of Alpena, Granddaughter-in-law; Sharon Connon of Schoolcraft, 7great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a sister; Clara Tewellof Hillman; nieces Pudge Morris of Grand Blanc, Marilyn Abraham ofWaterford and nephews Philip Wright of Lansing and Donald Wright ofHillman. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Blanche Noack and agrandson, James Connon. Friends may call at Wachterhauser Funeral Home from 6 to 9:00 p.m.Tuesday and from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM Wednesday. The funeral service isscheduled for 1:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. KennethChristler officiating. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery.
