FRANK J CLARK, 64, Dies Unexpectedly.
Former Local Businessman, Builder Stricken at Quarry.
Frank J Clark, 64 of Hickory Point, Gull Lake, a local builder untilrecently and owner of the Syncro Motors Co., auto appliance firm herefrom 1923 until 1932, died unexpectedly of a heart ailment about 4 p.m.Tuesday while working at his sandstone quarry just east of the southWattles Road near the county park.
Mr Clark and a workman, John W Watts of 138 E Roosevelt, were working atthe quarry when Mr Clark complained of feeling dizzy. He sat down and MrWatts fanned him until he said he felt better. They resumed work but MrClark again suffered a dizzy spell and apparently died almostimmediately. Mr Watts called an ambulance.
Although not well recently, Mr Clark had not suffered from a heartailment before, insofar as his family was aware.
Mr Clark was born here February 24, 1884, the son of O Scott and Clara(Watson) Clark, his father was a local attorney and a long deputy U.Scommissioner.
After graduating from high school here, Mr Clark attended the Universityof Michigan graduating in 1906.
He worked for Thomas Automobile Co, of Buffalo for several years beforemoving to Detroit to work for the Cadillac Motor Co. After five yearsthere, he opened an office supply house in south Bend. Then he returnedto Battle Creek to form the Syncro Motors Co.
He married Miss Clara Johannes in Chicago, 1910.
Besides his wife, Mr Clark is survived by a son Edwin J, now on temporaryduty as a Naval reserve Ensign at the Goguac Lake Training Center; adaughter, Mrs Philip ( Elsie) Pettis of Atlanta, Georgia, agranddaughter, Patricia Pettis, of Atlanta; two step-sisters; Mrs F.CGrandin of Elkhart, Indiana, and Mrs A.M. Giddings, of Pennfield Townshipand a nephew, Robert Scott Clark, attending Michigan State College.
Funeral arrangements await the arrival of Mrs Pettis from Georgia.
