Rylee, Joe Redd and Whiting have recently introduced three native immigrants. 1882-0505 JH: Mr. H. Atkins was presented, last Saturday night, by the G.T.'s with a white rest, in honor of his valuable services and interest manifested in the temperance cause. Hon. J.G. Whiting was selected to make the presentation, which was done in an elegant manner, worthy of the orator. I will add-not only by way of flattery, however-that the latter gentleman's varied accomplishments qualify him to fill various positions. His greatest misfortune consists in not deciding which one to select to make the most successful ==================================== 1900; Census Place: Clarksville, Habersham, Georgia; Roll: T623_202; Page: 11B; Enumeration District: 61. 15 Jun 1900 210/216 Whiting John head White male April 1833 67 married 40 years Georgia Georgia Georgia painter rents house Elizabeth wife white fem Feb 1844 56 married 40 mother of 11:11 living Georgia Connecticut Connecticut Dillard son white male Nov 1875 24 single Georgia Georgia Georgia day laborer Leeoy dau white fem July 1879 20 single Georgia Georgia Georgia Nannie dau white fem June 1881 single Georgia Georgia Georgia Kate R dau white fem Mar 1886 single Georgia Georgia Georgia Shade son white male June 1877 22 married 2 years Georgia Georgia Georgia Contractor Allie dau in law white fem Feb 1879 21 fem married 2 years mother of 1:1 liv Georgia Georgia Georgia Waldroup Mary daughter white fem Jan 1867 33 married 3 years mother of 1:1 living Lonnie grand son white male June 1899 11/12 single GA GA GA ================================= 1910; Census Place: Demorest, Habersham, Georgia; Roll: T624_195; Page: 9B; Enumeration District: 0076; Image: 805; FHL Number: 1374208. 40/40 Witing John Gordon head male white 69 Married 1st time 50 years Georgia Conn Conn Painter House rents house Elizabeth F wife fem white 66 Married 1st time 50 years mother of 12/10 Georgia Georgia Georgia Elethia E daughter fem white Georgia Georgia Georgia ================================= 1920;Census Place: Demorest, Habersham, Georgia; Roll: T625_261; Page: 5A; Enumeration District: 89; Image: 167. 91/101 Whiting John G head rent male white 78 married New York Conn Maine Shoe Repairing own shop Minnie wife fem white 48 married Georgia Georgia Georgia Stevens Arnie son male white 18 single Georgia Arkansas Georgia laborer farm Stevens Annie Belle dau fem white 15 single Georgia Arkansas Georgia | Whiting, John Gordon (I12036)

I am still looking for Nathan Whiting b. Dec 1827 in NY his father was born in New Hampshire I do not know who his parents were and have a hard time trying to match him up with any of the typical Whiting lines I have found. Nathan was married to 1) Harriett Adeline Woods (or Wood) some time around 1846 or 1847 Their first child was Harriett Adeline Whiting They moved to Michigan something before 1850 and the three of them show up in the 1850 Calhoun County Michigan Census. Nathan was a farmer. Nathan and Harriett had 5 or 6 children Van Buren County, MI 1860 Columbia Township Nathan Whiting Head of household age 31 Farmer Born in New York b. 1829 Harriet A. Harriett moved to Snohomish Washington with her Daughter Harriett Adeline Everts On April 6th 1887, Nathan married Effie Hubbard in Montcalm Michigan. Nathan and Effie moved to Skagit, Washington and show up in the 1900 census with youngest son Clarence J. Whiting living with them. I don't know when Nathan died (between 1900 and 1910) and can not find a record of his death in Washington state or Michigan. Their son Clarence Name: Clarence J. Whiting Death date: 20 Aug 1949 Death place: Kirkland, King, Washington In the 1910 Clear Lake, Skagit, Washington Census it lists Effie as a widow, so Nathan had to have died between 1900 and 1910I could use some help with who Nathan's parents from New Hampshire were. This is what I came up with using Calhoun Co., MI and the name Anson L. Whiting: I've been researching Jeremiah Bumpus Whiting (Baumpheous, Bompasse?) 1774 - 1850. He was born in Litchfield Co., CT, married in MA, practiced medicine in VT and NY and died in Lee, Calhoun, MI. He settled for several years in the Spafford, NY area. We have found other Whitings in the Spafford/Scott area and think he might have come to NY with other family members. My late cousin's research on Spafford found a Thomas Whiting who came to Spafford in 1811with a wife and 8 children. There was also an Anson L. (Lord) Whiting who was born in Litchfield Co. CT in 1807 and came to Spafford when he was 4 years old. (I think this was from A History of Spafford 1903 by Capt. George Knapp Collins). Perhaps Anson is a family name? There was also mention of a Theophilus Whiting who was born in England and settled in CT. >From other sources, there was a Thomas Whiting (about 1777) of Spafford, NY, son of Theophilus. Thomas is buried in Onondaga Hill Cemetery, and had a son Anson Lord Whiting. The county lines have changed several times, so there may be information in Onondaga, Cayuga and/or Cortland Counties. Hope this is of some help. I'd appreciate more information on Jeremiah B. Whiting. Who were his parents and siblings? (I have some guesses but nothing verified.) He was the first of 3 generations of Jeremiah B. Whitings and I have quite a bit of info on #s 2 and 3. ================================ gen 1 William Whiting Born Hartford Connecticut 16 Dec 1758 d.22 Mar 1849 married Abigail Flower gen 2 Nathan Whiting Born Hartford Connecticut Married Rhoda Towle gen 3 Nathan Whiting Born Warsaw, Wyoming County, New York 1827 Married Harriet gen 4 Anson Lionel Whiting Born Bangor, Van Buren County Michigan in 1860 gen 5 Clarence David Whiting Born 1883 Married Mary Anson (Wilson) gen 6 Anson Vernon Whiting Born 1910 Married Virginia Loomis Family Group Sheet According to CD159, of the New England Families vol. 2-the surname Whiting is derived from a name of a place and has been in use in England since the earliest adaptation of surnames.
