!Film # 1278896 Barrow Gurney BTS;

md 1766 to Elizabeth Ogborne also has a son Edward Weston born 1768 plus 5 other children.

Bastardly bonds indicate that he is the father of Maria,Benjamin and Joseph
Millard of Backwell. He may also be the father of Eleanor and John Millard of St
Michael,Winterbourne,Gloucester(film #'s 1565463,1565464)

Records also indicate that Edward was church warden at Barrow Gurney from at
least 1792 thru 1816.In 1825 an Edward Weston also started signing as a church
warden, but the hand writing is different ,so it was likely that Edward Weston
,junior was then Church Warden.

From about 1815 thru 1835 Eleanor Millards name appears on the "poor rolls" as being given a stippend every 2-3 months(film #
1595662)Edward was sealed to Elizabeth Ogborn 9 Oct 1987.Her work was done in
1927.

!Was church warden of Barrow Gurney for many years. Was married 30 Apr 1766 to
Elizabeth Ogborn at Barrow Gurney,Somerset, had 6 children by her.

Was an husbandman(farmer)

No marriage ever found for marriage to Elinor Millard, but he is charged with bastardly conduct with her on at least 3 occasions. The entry as (found by Nancy Sandrock and reported to Evelyn Baird 23 Mar 1995)reads,"Edward Weston, the elder, farmer(husbandman) charged with bastardy upon the body of one Elinor Millard on 3 different accounts. This information from Bastardy records

Weston, Edward (I14845)

26462 Son of Octave Gerald Bollschweiler and Anna Marie Benincosa Bollschweiler, Bradley Jay (I42437)

26463 Son of Rev. Jonathan Marsh and Margaret Whiting

First Generation
1. Rev. Jonathan MARSH was born on 1 Jan 1714 in Windsor, Hartford,
Connecticut. He died in 1794 in New Hartford, Litchfield, Connecticut. John
Marsh of Hartford, CT; Marsh Genealogy 1636 - 1895; Compiled by Dwight
Whitney Marsh of Amherst, Mass. Published by Press of Carpenter & Marebouse,
Amherst, Mass, 1895. p. 313.
Graduated at Yale college 1735, ordained and settled Oct., 1739, at New
Hartford, Ct., where he remained pastor between 54 and 55 years until his
death. The family of Rev. Jonathan and his descendants need to be carefully
distinguished from those of his father's cousin Capt. Jonathan son of John,
John. Both were of New Hartford, the Capt. one of the very first settlers,
the parson the first minister settled there. When his house was built, about
1740, Rev. Mr. Marsh told the men present that they must cut away the white
birches between there and Mr. Israel Loomis' house before they could have
anything to eat or drink as he wanted to see his nearest neighbor's house.
They fell to, cut the way clear and had the refreshments including a good
supply of rum. He had a slave who did his house and farm work. This Negro,
named Moses, set out an orchard of some fifty apple trees which was always
called "Moses Orchard." Father Marsh as was customary in those days,
considered a little stimulant essential to health of farm laborers,
especially in haying. Yet he was a thoughtful man and knew that these
stimulants sometimes bite like an adder. One day he gave Moses a bottle
containing a moderate quantity of cider brandy and to divert his attention
from the quantity to the quality told him that is was very old. Moses took
the bottle, held it up to the light and with a disappointed wink replied,
"Yes, Massa, but berry small of his age. " He told Mr. Tucker one day "It
would be no sin to worship your drag for it is 'like nothing in the heavens
above or the earth beneath.'" Rev. Jonathan Marsh was twice married. He had
a little book in which he thus recorded his two marriages.
This little book now more than 150 years old, in which he kept some or all
his church records, has a curious history. John F. Marsh, Esq. of Hartford,
1893, thus describes it: "Someone came across it in Washington D.E. and sent
it to Hon. Origen S. Seymour, connected with the Marsh family. He presented
it to the corporation of Memorial Hall, Hartford, where I found it. It is
bound in leather, is about six by four inches in size and less than an inch
in thickness. The cover is off and the leaves all loose. The work is finely
and closely written How it got to Washington is a mystery."

Of his first
wife who had six children the following record is significant. "Her child,
Elizabeth, was born May 10, baptized 15. She d. of a Sab. morning Mary 20,
1749, ae about 30 years." He had twelve children, of whom seven were
daughters and five sons, and all but one son grew up, and ten were married.
His second wife Marianna Keith was a young widow with two daughters one of
whom m. William Ellery, a prominent merchant of Hartford, and became
grandmother of Thomas H. Seymour, governor of Connecticut and minister to
Russia.
The following pen portrait is by Rev. Frederick M. Marsh, who lived to be
92. "Mr. Marsh was above medium height and size of men, well proportioned,
grave and venerable in appearance, of a social turn of mind, and accustomed
to wear a large wig. He was settled on the halfway plan; was Arminian in his
theological views. In his preaching, as I remember him, when about fourteen
years old, was not animated, and as it seemed to me, never earnest and
rousing. I remember to have been seriously affected on seeing and hearing
him address the people on funeral occasions." A fac simile of his signature
is found in the History of Hartford county, vol. 2, p. 540. His salary was
100 pounds to be increase 10 pounds a year till it became 150 pounds. He was
given choice of pews. Indians were allowed in the church only on town
pleasure. There was "suitable preparation of liqueur" for meeting house
"raising." During 55 years of ministry he never attended the Hartford North
Consociation. As did most of the Connecticut ministers in 1741 and 1744, he
opposed Whitfield.

William and Anna came to America with the Winthrop Fleet in 1630, along with their four children. Anna died of scurvy shortly after their arrival. "His w. d. in the first season, bef. ret. of the sh. [ship] in wh.[which] they came."
William was elected assistant and treasurer of the colony, and helped start a new settlement at Roxbury, MA. He married the widow Frances Samford in about 1632, the mother of his future son-in-law Henry Smith. A couple of years later William and some other men decided to move westward to what is now known as Springfield, MA. At that time the area was under the jurisdiction of Connecticut.

"Whiting Family. Nathaniel Whitin (1) , the immigrant ancestor of the Whitin Family of Whitinsville , Massachusetts, was born in 1609 in England. He is mentioned in the will of his grandfather, John Smith , who bequeathed to his mother, Sarah (Smith) Whiting, lands in Hoxden, Middlesex county, England. He had a brother, Samuel Whiting, also mentioned in his will. Nathaniel Whiting came first to Lynn as early as 1638, when he was a proprietor of that town. In the first records his name is spelled Whiting, Whyting and Whitinge, most of the descendants having used the form Whiting. He removed to Dedham a few years after he came to New England and was a proprietor there in 1640. He was admitted to the church, July 30, 1641and was made a freeman May 18, 1642. He died at Dedham January 15, 1682/83. His will was dated May 15, 1677, and proved April 19, 1683.

Came to colonies at age of 29 years.

Title: Colonial Families of the United States of America Page: Vol. 6, page 289 Text: The emigrant ancestor of Harriet WHITING was Nathaniel WHITING, of Lynn, 1638, and Dedham, 16 41, where he established the first corn mill, on the oldest canal in America, which connect s the Charles with the lower levels of the Neponset River. His wife, Hannah, daughter of John and Hannah DWIGHT of Dedham, survived him thirty years, managed his business affairs and brought up a large family with rare discretion. The corn mill was in the possession of the WHITING family for more than two centuries. The last owner was William WHITING, son of Lemue l and Mary (GAY) WHITING, and of the sixth generation from the first miller, Nathaniel WHITING.

===========================================
Notes for Nathaniel Whiting: According to the Desford, England Parish Register, Nathaniel was the son of Timothie and Anne Bunning(e) Whiting, who were married 20 Oct 1606. Nathaniel is first mentioned in this country as a landholder in Lynn, Mass., in 1638. He is next mentioned in the records of the First Church at Dedham, Mass. He was admitted into the church at Dedham on 30 Jul 1641. He was granted the privileges of a freeman on 18 May 1642. Nathaniel was married in Dedham, Mass, on 4 Nov 1643, to Hannah Dwight, daughter of John and Hannah Dwight of Dedham. She died in Dedham on 4 Nov 1714, aged 89 years (born about 1625). Eleven of their 14 children survived to adulthood. From other records, Nathaniel was born about 1609. He was therefor about 29 when he came to this country, 34 when he married, 63 or 64 when his 14th and youngest child was born, and 73 or 74 when he died. He was about 16 years older than his wife Hannah. Nathaniel was by occupation a miller, and the first to operate a corn mill at Dedham. At their 8th town meeting, 21 Feb 1636-7, the townsmen of Dedham voted to grant Abraham Shaw the right to build a corn mill. He died in 1638 before the mill was Commenced. Therefor, the right was granted to Nathaniel Whiting and John Elderkin. Water was diverted from the Charles River into the Neponset River and sufficient fall and supply of water obtained for a mill. The records do not give the date of completion of the dam and mill, but a committee was appointed on 14 Jul 1641 to "lay out a cartway to our mill". A grant of 8 acres was made to John Elderkin and Nathaniel Whiting on the south side of the millpond for a house lot. There is no date to this grant. John Elderkin sold his half of the property to Nathan Aldus, John Dwight and John Allin (Dwight was Nathaniel's father-in-law) on 8 Aug 1642. They in turn sold their interest to Nathaniel on 29 Sep 1649, making him sole owner. The mill privilege was retained in the hands of the Whiting family until 1823, when the heirs of Hezekiah Whiting sold it to Jabez Chickering. On 15 Jan 1682-3, the day of his death in Dedham, Nathaniel Whiting and John Draper, Sr. were granted the right to erect a fulling mill on the stream below the corn mill. By his will, dated 15 May 1677, he gave all of his possessions to his wife Hannah, who was his executrix. An inventory of his estate on 15 Feb 1682-3 assessed his worth at 489 Pounds. His wife Hannah survived him over 30 years and appears to have managed his business interests and brought up their large family with rare discretion. The largest street in Dedham today is Whiting Avenue. The two schools in town are located on Whiting Avenue. Nathaniel is mentioned in the will of his father-in-law John Dwight, written in 1658: "I giue vnto my sonne, Nathaniell Whiteing, 20s. ... My will is, that my dwelling house, land, and moveables in ye Towne of Dedham, or elsewhere, which shall be founde to my estate, at my decease, be equally devided into fiue pts, two pts whereof I giue vnto my sonne, Timothy Dwight, and one part vnto ye Children of my son, Nathaniell Whiteing, and of Hannah, his wife, or soe many of them as shall be surviueing at my decease, to be payde by my Executor, as in his discretion will best conduce for their benefitt. Alsoe, that my sonne, Nathaniell Whiteing, shall enjoy all that 6 Acres of land, be it more or lesse, which lyeth in ye low playne; and ye 2 Acres of meadow lyeing In foule meadow, which I bought of Lieut.
