!Richard Webb of Norwalk, Connecticut had no children so he 'took Sarah, the youngest daughter of the Reverend Samuel Stone and brought her up'. In 1677 his widow Elizabeth employed her "Beloved Brother John Gregory to make an agreement with Thomas Butler of Hartford and his wife" they "laying claims to the estate of her husband Richard Webb deceased."

Richard was in Cambridge, Mass. in 1632; a freeman Mass. 14 May 1634.
Removed to Hartford; an original proprietor in 1639-40, when 16 acres were alloted to him. His house lot was on the corner where the road from George Steele's to the South Meadow interesected the road from the Mill to the Country.
He was a juror 1643-4-7-8' townsman 1649-54-58; one of the committee for the mill 1661; grand juror 1660--62; deputy 1656-1660; one of the deacons of the First Church. Inv - 564 lbs. 15-0. His first wife's name is unknown.

Said to have sailed to America on the ship Hector in 1632 with his brother William, leaving two sisters in Essex. One sister, Jane, married a "West" and the other married a "Winter". Richard's brother William died in Hartford in 1648, the two sisters are mentioned in his will.
Richard's parents are believed to have been Stephen (born about 1580 in Braintree) and Mary; and Stephen's father, John (born about 1550), by some accounts Stephen died in Hartford CT.

Richard married Bigelow, Elizabeth in 1634 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Elizabeth (daughter of Bigelow, Randall, daughter of Bigelow, Randall and Cummins, Jane) was born about 1614 in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut; died on 26 Feb 1656/1657 in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut; was buried on 26 Feb 1656/1657 in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut. !Her will spoke of "her five children" Nathaniel, Joseph, Daniel, Samuel and Elizabeth Olmstead," Their was a debt due to her estate from Thomas Butler administrator of his father's estate and this was remitted to Thomas and his
brothers and sisters by the consent of Samuel and Daniel Butler and Joseph Olmstead.
It appears that Hannah, Thomas and Mary were children of his first wife.

Notes:

Came to America on the "Griffin" with Thomas Hooker in 1633. Took Freeman's Oath May 14, 1634, and settled first in Cambridge. Samuel Stone was the teaching colleague of Thomas Hooker at Hartford, CT. Hartford was named for Stone's home in England, Hertford. He was a firm opponent of the "half-way covenant." Chaplain of troops under Captain John Mason in Pequot War. After Hooker died he got into a squabble with church members which was described by Savage as "equally bitter and unintelligible." Mather considered the origin "undiscoverable." The dispute could not be resolved, and in 1659 about 35 families left Hartford to found the town of Hadley in Massachusetts. When Stone died 1/5 of his estate was in books. Studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. On March 1 1654/55 Walter Filer (#3208) charged Samuel Stone in court with "breach of a fundamental law" and the "elders in general sin and wickedness", but Filer's conduct was deemed insufferable and his charges baseless.
