[William Whiting came from London, England, where he had been a mer-
chant. He became associated with Lord Say-and-Sele, Lord Brooke, George
Wyllys and others, in a patent for lands in Connecticut, and was one of the
earliest settlers of Hartford, Conn., in 1636; treasurer of the Colony until his
death, in 1647.

Second Generation, Joseph Whiting, born October 2, 1C45, married October 5,
1669, Mary Pynchon, born October 28, 1650, daughter of John Pynchon, of Spring-
field, Mass., and his wife, Amy, daughter of George Wy'lyt, of Hartford, Conn.,
who came from Fenny-Corn pton, in Warwickshire, England, in 1638, removed
to Hartford, Conn., was deputy-governor in 1641 ; governor in 1642, and died
March 9, 1645.

(Nicholas Pynchon, born in Wales, before a. d. 1500, removed to London,
where he was a merchant and, in 1532, lord mayor. He was succeeded by his
son John Pynchon, whose son, William Pynchon, (being of the third generation,)





(Edward Allen came from Scotland in 1630 to Ipswich, Mass. He married
Sarah Kimball, daughter of Richard Kimball, who came from Ipswich, England,
in the ship "Elizabeth" to Watertown, Mass., in 1634, with his wife Ursula.
They removed to Suffield, Conn., where he died in 1675. Mrs. Sarah Allen died
June 12, 1696.

Second Generation, John Allen, born about 1656, married February 22, 1681,
Elizabeth Prichard, daughter of William Prichard, of Suffield, Conn., who was
son of William Prichard, who came from England and settled at Lynn, Mass.,
in 1645, thence removing to Ipswich in 1648, and afterwards one of the first
settlers of Brookfield, Fairfield county, Conn.



The descendants of John Porter, of Windsor, Conn., in the line of his great, great grandson, Col. Joshua Porter, M.D., of Salisbury, Litchfield county, Conn., with some account of the families into which they married

bers. He m. Marie or Mary Whiting, dau'r of Mr. Wm. Whiting, Aug. 3, 1664. He contin-
