Lieut. JABEZ CORNISH (15), b. , 1726; d. ; m. 1st

Dorothy (dau. Abraham) DIBBLE, March 14, 1748 (she

6. Sept. 4, 1728; d. ); m. 2d Sarah WHITING, Jan.

30, 1770. The date of his birth cannot be found on
the Simsbury (Conn.) records; but on Feb. 14, 1743,
when about seventeen years old, he chose Thomas Mar-
vin, of Simsbury, Conn., as his guardian, the appoint-
ment being confirmed by the court, Jan. 20, 1744; also
he was made a freeman Sept. 15, 1747, so that 1726 is
undoubtedly correct. He moved from Simsbury to
Canaan, Conn., about 1752, and owned land in Canaan,
which he sold and moved to Washington, then called
Hartwood, Mass., between 1771 and 1776, as the old
Massachusetts records show that he was 1st Lieutenant
in the 17th Company of the 2d Berkshire Regiment (Colo-
nel Simonds) during the Revolutionary War. He after-
ward moved, judging from real estate transactions, etc.,
about 1790, to Coventry, N.Y., near which place he died
at a very advanced age.
